About Us

About us

Local Digital is a team within the UK Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

We support councils to deliver public services that are cyber-secure, cost-effective, and user-centred.

Our ambition

Local Digital has two key aims:

  1. Improve the cyber resilience of the local government sector
  2. Use digital transformation to help councils deliver better services and increase productivity

How we enable councils

Creating a shared vision

Our programme is underpinned by the Local Digital Declaration, a shared ambition for the future of local public services.

The Declaration’s principles set the expectations and ways of working for councils, supporting organisations, and government. So far over 300 organisations have signed the Declaration.

Working with partners

As part of our mission to support the Local Digital movement and community, we collaborate with a number of partner organisations in the local government sector including:

  • Local Government Association (LGA)
  • Society for Innovation, Technology and Modernisation (SOCITM)
  • London Office of Technology and Innovation (LOTI)

Join us in making public services fit for the digital age

Written in 2018 by a collective of 45 local authorities, sector bodies, and government departments, the Local Digital Declaration creates a shared understanding of what digital and technology can enable for local authorities and their residents.

Any public sector and non-profit organisation that is working to improve local services is invited to join the movement by signing the Declaration.
