Colchester Borough Council

Outcome of Expression of Interest: Not shortlisted

Colchester Borough Council have been developing various council applications on Microsoft Dynamics.  When we started, we were one of the first councils using the system in this way. However we have discovered that this is becoming an ever popular system for Council’s and have already been approached by five councils to collaborate.  We would like to establish a central knowledge base and code repository for local government organisations to use.  This would mean that councils are able to share applications they have already built and make use of others that other councils have built, significantly cutting down any development time. This would also allow councils to find other organisations developing on the same system as themselves and can then share the development of any new functionality.  The knowledge base side could also include process maps, to help share any service efficiencies made.  Plus a central list of all the third party applications used by an organisation would enable contract renewal to be negotiated in bulk and mean greater lobbying power to private sector companies around local government products. We would like to build a code repository and knowledge base website that is accessible to local government employees.

Discovery evidence

Colchester Borough Council have had visits from the following councils in just the last three months:

Argyll and Bute

Shropshire

Chelmsford

Lewis and Evesham

They are all looking to implement Microsoft Dynamics in their organisations and were interested in how we built our system and what it can do.  By having a central code repository, we can significantly cut down the time they would need to build a system.  They would also be able to benefit from our process maps and our joint buying power with Microsoft.
