We have analysed the processes involved in applying for, approving and providing home to school transport for children with and without special educational needs. We want to further develop our alpha version of the application we have specifically written to manage and automate the whole process (where automation is possible such as efficient route planning). We also want to involve more local authorities, parents, schools and transport providers in the development and testing so that we can create a stable app that will be the benchmark for this important service in the future.

Discovery evidence

There has been a collaboration between the IT Service, home to school transport team and business improvement team within the authority. We have all worked together to fully understand the end to end process and, at each point, where parents, schools, transport providers and / or the local authority need to become involved. We have also worked with a development partner, Wirral Borough Council, to understand where the process differs in a neighbouring authority and what changes would be required to the software in order to meet those needs.
