Shipley Parish Council
West Sussex County Council (WSCC) has provided licences for the Parish Online Geographical Information System (GIS) for use by the 150 Parish Councils within the County. The licences were provided by WSCC as part of their ‘Operation Watershed’ flooding and drainage infrastructure project that addressed the riparian ditch network, damage to roads and improving resilience to protect homes, businesses and highways. The GIS tool has proved invaluable to Parish Councils to log their assets and for Neighbourhood Plans.
The Clerk at Shipley Parish Council has been tasked by WSCC and the Sussex and Surrey Association of Local Authorities to lead the roll-out and develop Parish Online expertise across the Parish Councils across the County.
In January 2018 the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) formed a partnership with both Parish Online and PEAR to encourage better use of Digital Mapping in Local Councils. NALC understands that the proper use of digital mapping systems improves efficiency and promotes good decision-making.
This EOI requests an expansion of the use of the tool such as creating national layers including Tree Risk on Publicly Owned Land, Public Rights of Way, Drainage, Emergency Plans all of which would be available to the public
